Cafes :: Coffee Bean

We decided to catch up with friends for a morning coffee at the Coffee Bean on the corner of Jalan Lim Chin Guan and Gurney Drive.

Base camp was established under the wide shade giving umbrellas on the large forecourt. We relaxed with Claire, her babies Poppy the Beagle, and Lili the all Malaysian beach dog, along with Nicole, and her Schnauzer pal Jacky, and enjoyed some wonderful Coffee Bean coffee.

Both Lili and Jacky were rescued in Penang while Poppy hails from old blighty and can be described as a world traveler. Our resident experts Noogie the Lab and Billy the Kelpie were also on hand to ensure the first timers at the Coffee Bean knew just what to order.

Kevin was managing the café today and we were all delighted to see Nanthini working both the kitchen and front of house. They are always so welcoming, as are the rest of the staff, and they will provide water for your furkids if asked. Special orders are provided with a smile but today we decided to stick with the regular menu and have coffee and muffins as the necessary dog accessory.

The dogs were laid back and particularly enjoyed their Coffee Bean iced water. Poppy did decide at one point that she might like to try the Gurney Hotel — maybe she wanted a little something to spice up the water — but Claire got her back on track and she resettled under the table. It was paws up all round and we left satisfied and with the promise of all getting together at the Coffee Bean again soon.

It’s worth noting that this Coffee Bean is very busy on weekend mornings with family groups so if you and your four legged friend would rather a more peaceful start to the day then weekend afternoons or weekdays are better.

How to get there:

This Coffee Bean store is located on the corner of Jalan Lim Chin Guan and Gurney Drive. In the mornings you can usually get street parking along Gurney Drive or nab one of the limited spaces On Jalan Lim Chin Guan.
