Cafes :: Cafe Gusto
Some days you just stumble on to things. We heard at whisper at the gym that there’s a new breakfast place in town and it opens really early so you can get you coffee before work. Well you can if you live in the Tanjung Bungah area.
Dog Friendly Penang visited this new cafe to see what the story is. And we were very happy with what we saw. Firstly, there is a collection box for 4Paws animal rescue in Teluk Bahang; a worthy cause if every there was one, so don’t forget to throw your spare ringgit into the tin. Secondly, before we got served with our coffee one of our Dog Friendly Penang experts was served some lovely water in a blue bowl with the word Friends written on the side. We didn’t ask, the water just arrived in the hands of the owner of Cafe Gusto Jason Selvanayagam .. I think we’ll just call him Jason :-).
Jason used to teach Industrial Arts and English at the Dalat International School before using his considerable talents to build Cafe Gusto. He is still waiting for 3 phase power so his beloved espresso machine can be put in to service, as well as being able to air condition the planned lower section. In the meantime, coffee is served cona style.
The menu at Cafe Gusto is what I would call American diner style. Breakfast is served until 11.30 and then the lunch menu commences. If you like bacon and french toast and maple syrup, this is the place for you.
Hours for Cafe Gusto are 7:00am – 3pm. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 7:00am – 2:00pm Friday and 8:00am to 2:00pm Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Cafe Gusto is closed Wednesday.
How to get there:
Cafe Gusto is at 4 Jalan Sungai Kelian, Tanjung Bungah. It’s next to the Esso fuel station. A great place to stop in for breakfast on your way to take the pooch to Sri Golden Bay beach for a swim
